That’s Going To Be What Color….???

Woodie Bank UnpaintedThere are a lot of really cool things about pottery and one of them is how dramatically the color changes in the kiln.  We’re always being asked questions like…”Is this really going to come out red?” and ”If putting more coats on makes it darker, how come it keeps getting lighter the more I paint?”  Although it generally only takes one cycle of painting and firing to convince the uninitiated, the change is always amazing no matter how often you see it.  Here’s a couple of pictures of a piece I painted that shows just far it can go.

Applying Fired Snow

Fired Snow Tile

The finished tile

I bet your wondering why we would introduce a glaze with a name like Fired Snow right as the weather is starting to turn to spring.  Well its turns out bunny rabbits and spring go together and Fired Snow adds a billowy white texture to the ceramic surface its applied to.  Among other things, its perfect for making clouds, bunny tails, kitty cat cheeks and, of course, snow.  Having the consistency of paste, its easy to work with and is a great way to add an extra little touch to your piece.  Here’s a quick tutorial on how to use and apply Fired Snow. Create Cool Effects With Flowing Glazes

We’ve stocked a new type of glaze at Your Creation Station called Magic Flow.  The glazes create the effect you would see on a piece of ash glazed pottery, with rivulets of glaze running down the pot.  To demonstrate how it the glaze looks we’re going to use a combination of glazes and underglazes to finish a thrown cup.
